Nine feared dead as landslides and flash floods devastate Mon district, displacing families and severing road, power and communications
DIMAPUR — At least nine people are feared dead in Mon district after incessant rainfall triggered devastating landslides and flash floods early Sunday, leaving large parts of the district cut off from the rest of Nagaland.
According to the Konyak Union (KU), four bodies have been recovered, while five others remain missing and search operations are continuing. The union added that around 150 households have been displaced across the district, with extensive damage reported to homes, roads, public infrastructure, livestock and farmlands.
Communication with several parts of the district remained disrupted at the time of filing this report, making independent verification of the figures difficult.
Mon town has witnessed continuous rainfall since Saturday, while several other parts of the district, including Tizit and Naginimora, have been battered by heavy rain since Friday.

In Tizit, floodwaters inundated large areas of the town, submerging houses and forcing families to flee to safer locations. Residents were seen wading through waist-deep water as floodwaters swept through residential areas. Many families lost household belongings, while fears remain that the situation could worsen if rainfall continues.
Road connectivity has been severed at several locations across the district after landslides and fallen trees blocked major routes. Electricity supply, mobile network services and water connections have also been disrupted, leaving many villages and subdivisions isolated.
Naginimora was also hit by flash floods, with reports of damaged houses, farms and roads. Residents awoke on Sunday to inundated homes and widespread destruction caused by overflowing streams.
Meanwhile, rescue and relief operations involving the district administration, SDRF, Nagaland Police, Assam Rifles and local volunteers continued across the district despite challenging weather conditions.
