Nagaland announces ex gratia, relief and rehabilitation for Mon landslide victims and flood-affected families amid widespread monsoon devastation statewide
DIMAPUR — Nagaland government on Sunday announced ex gratia assistance for victims of the deadly landslide in Mon town while assuring relief and rehabilitation for families affected by heavy rain, floods and landslides across the state.
According to a DIPR update, a landslide struck Mon town at around 6.30 am on Saturday, claiming lives and causing extensive damage to property and infrastructure. The government also acknowledged severe flooding in Tuli subdivision of Mokokchung district and weather-related damage in several other parts of Nagaland.
Expressing condolences to the families of those killed, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has approved an immediate ex gratia of INR 4 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased person and INR 74,000 for every injured person.
It also stated that relief assistance, including food, temporary shelter, essential commodities and other eligible support, will be provided to affected families in the impacted districts.

The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs), district administrations, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Nagaland Police and other departments are carrying out search and rescue operations, evacuating vulnerable residents, restoring essential services and distributing relief materials.
The government, it added, is closely monitoring the evolving weather situation, which has triggered landslides, flash floods, road blockages and damage to public and private infrastructure in several districts.
It has directed all departments concerned to remain on high alert, ensure coordination among agencies, restore road connectivity and expedite rehabilitation measures.
The government also urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid landslide-prone slopes, riverbanks and other vulnerable areas. Residents have been advised to follow advisories issued by the NSDMA, Home department and district administrations, cooperate with emergency response agencies and rely only on official information instead of unverified reports or rumours.
