Heavy rain damages power lines, triggers landslides and blocks roads in Wokha, while two homes face imminent collapse risk

WOKHA — Continuous rainfall since July 18 has caused widespread disruption across Wokha district, damaging power lines and triggering mudslides that blocked key roads.
In Akuk village, power lines were damaged on Sunday, prompting villagers to undertake temporary restoration work to restore electricity.
Mudslides were also reported from several parts of the district. The Wokha-Merapani road, a vital link for commuters, witnessed multiple slides, while the stretch between Doyang and Sanis was blocked by fallen trees and rocks. Details on road clearance and restoration of traffic were awaited at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, continuous rain has triggered a landslide in Lower Etsutchukha colony in Wokha town, threatening two households.
The colony council on Sunday inspected the homes of Lipenthung and Woremo after soil erosion reached parts of their houses, including rooms and kitchens.
The council has appealed to the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Wokha, to conduct an immediate inspection and provide assistance to the affected families.
