Konyak Union urges Nagaland government to declare emergency in Mon as landslides, floods and isolation devastate the district
DIMAPUR — The Konyak Union (KU) on Sunday urged Nagaland government to declare an emergency in Mon district following widespread devastation caused by incessant monsoon rain, which has left the district cut off, claimed lives, displaced hundreds of families and crippled essential services.
In a statement, the apex tribal body said that the district had suffered extensive destruction from landslides, flash floods and road blockages, affecting villages and sub-divisions across Mon.
According to the union, the death toll has risen to nine, with four bodies recovered and five others still missing, while the exact number of missing persons is yet to be ascertained.

The KU added that around 150 households have been displaced across the district, while damage to livestock and property remains unaccounted for. It stated that electricity, communication networks and water supply have been disrupted in several areas, while low-lying localities, including Naginimora, Upper Tiru, Lower Tiru and Tizit, have been inundated.
Describing the situation as a humanitarian crisis, the union stated that Mon district has been completely cut off due to road blockages and landslides.
The KU informed that it held an emergency meeting with the district administration and urged officials to compile a comprehensive assessment of the destruction and submit detailed reports to the state government.
It also called on the government to establish rehabilitation camps for displaced families, provide immediate relief to affected households and expedite the clearance of landslide debris to restore road connectivity to villages and sub-divisions that remain isolated.
The union further appealed to the government to deploy additional earth-moving machinery across all sub-divisions to speed up road restoration and maintain connectivity during the ongoing monsoon season.
It also sought immediate financial assistance for the next of kin of those who lost their lives, saying relief should reach affected families without delay.
