DIMAPUR — Yemhi Memorial College, Dimapur, observed its 3rd Literary and Cultural Fest and the 2nd edition of the Euphonic Fest on October 30 and 31 respectively, at the college campus on the themes ‘Celebrating diversity of culture’ and ‘Strings and beats’.
According to an update, both events were organised by the Yemhi Memorial College Student Council (YMCSC).
The 3rd Literary and Cultural Fest aimed to promote cultural unity and showcase the diverse traditions and talents of students from various communities. It featured cultural performances such as ‘Aphi Kighile’ by the Sumi Cultural Troupe and ‘Sohi Mozho’ by the Tenyimi Cultural Troupe.
The special guest, S Otova, senior grade deputy registrar (retd.) of Nagaland University and vice president of Sumi Hoho, Zunheboto, in his speech spoke on both the cultural and literary aspects, emphasising the importance of preserving identity and culture while adapting to changing times.
He noted that the Nagas historically lacked a written script and relied largely on oral traditions. With modern technology and artificial intelligence creating a societal gap, he stressed that educational institutions must bridge this gap through proper education.
Otova expressed hope that the college would continue to produce responsible and aware individuals who contribute positively to society and wished the college continued success.
