Kohima College Kohima celebrates National Author’s Day on Saturday.

DIMAPUR — The English and Tenyidie departments of Kohima College Kohima (KCK) jointly celebrated National Author’s Day on Saturday at its conference hall with Kethoselie Zhale, noted Tenyidie author and retired teacher, as the speaker.
An update from the college has described Zhale as a prolific and accomplished writer in the Tenyidie language, who had written nine books encompassing fiction, drama, poetry, historical narratives and humour. It added that several of his works have been incorporated into the Tenyidie syllabus under Nagaland University. He is currently the chaplain of Rusoma Village Council.
In her welcome address, Khriezenuo Angami, associate professor and head of English department, highlighted that the event was organised to celebrate and acknowledge the diverse contributions of authors to the world of literature.
In his address, the speaker underscored the influential role of authors in nation-building. He urged the students and faculty to nurture their literary talents and contribute meaningfully to society through writing.

He also encouraged the students to draw inspiration from writers’ creativity and aspire to live exemplary lives.
It stated that the speaker also released the first edition of English department’s newsletter “Eunoia,” an initiative aimed at providing students a platform to hone their creative writing, editing and documentation skills.
The event also witnessed felicitation of winners of the essay writing competition held on September 29.
In the English category, Thüjokhrüto Keyho, BA 3rd semester of English department, secured the 1st position, followed by Merübeinuo Zumu, BA 3rd semester of Political Science department, and Keneize-u Mechie-o, B.Com 5th semester of Commerce department, in 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
In the Tenyidie category, Mhashevinü Sale, BA 3rd semester of Tenyidie department, bagged the 1st position, while Mhalevonuo Khezhie, BA 1st semester of Tenyidie department, and Viketounuo Kesitsu, BA 1st semester of English department, secured the 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. All the winners received literary books and certificates.
It further stated that a total of 15 faculty and 54 students participated in the celebration.
