NSDMA forecasts increased rainfall across Nagaland from August 26, with Peren, Mokokchung and Longleng expected to receive most rain
DIMAPUR — With several parts of Nagaland remaining vulnerable to rain-related disruption, the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has forecast increased rainfall activity across the state from Wednesday, with Peren, Mokokchung and Longleng projected to receive the highest cumulative rainfall through August 29.
According to the district-wise weather outlook issued by NSDMA on Tuesday, localised thunderstorms, lightning and light to moderate rainfall are expected at scattered locations from August 26, with rainfall activity likely to become more widespread on August 27.
For August 26, thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by light to moderate rainfall are expected at scattered locations, particularly over Longleng, Mokokchung, Peren, Phek, Tseminyu, Tuensang and Wokha.
Rainfall is likely to become more widespread on August 27, with light to moderate rain expected at most places over Longleng, Peren, Tseminyu and Tuensang, while thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by rain are likely in several other districts.

Thunderstorms and lightning with light to moderate rainfall are expected to continue at scattered locations on August 28, while rainfall activity is forecast to persist over several districts on August 29, including Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Peren, Tuensang and Zunheboto.
Based on the five-day rolling rainfall probability for August 25-29, Peren is projected to record the highest cumulative rainfall at 93.83 mm, followed by Mokokchung at 88.83 mm and Longleng at 83.98 mm.
Tuensang is expected to receive 64.99 mm, Tseminyu 63.58 mm, Wokha 58.38 mm, Phek 52.89 mm, Mon 51.53 mm and Dimapur 51.51 mm. Kohima is projected to receive around 43.96 mm, while comparatively lower cumulative rainfall is expected in the remaining districts.
The NSDMA advised residents to avoid sheltering under isolated trees or near electric poles during thunderstorms and to exercise caution while travelling in rain and reduced visibility.
Motorists have been advised to take extra care while travelling along vulnerable and landslide-prone stretches.
It also urged the public to regularly monitor weather updates through the Safer Nagaland mobile application and NSDMA Weather Portal and follow official advisories.
