Professor L Lidziisa on the occasion, highlighted the key objectives of first aid management, including preserving life, preventing the condition from worsening, promoting recovery and relief, protecting the victim, and providing psychological support and reassurance. She stressed that a calm and appropriate response can significantly influence the outcome of an emergency situation.
Kechegi Khing, a B.Sc. Nursing intern, addressed the management of bleeding and epistaxis (nosebleed). Through practical demonstrations, the nursing interns demonstrated different methods of controlling bleeding and explained the appropriate steps to be followed when assisting a person with a nosebleed.
Imnasangla Longkumer, B.Sc. Nursing, an eighth-semester intern, spoke on breathing techniques and BLS. She introduced the students to diaphragmatic breathing and box breathing, including the 4-4-4-4 breathing technique. She also explained useful breathing strategies and precautions to remember when assisting someone experiencing a panic attack.
The theoretical sessions were followed by practical demonstrations of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by the nursing interns. Students of Patkai Christian College were then given an opportunity to practise CPR themselves under the guidance of the nursing team. The hands-on session enabled the participants to develop a practical understanding of chest compressions and the appropriate response to a life-threatening emergency.
