DIMAPUR — Against the backdrop of a series of crimes against women and unresolved murder cases that have sparked public outrage in Nagaland, the Naga Mothers' Association (NMA) has sought the intervention of Governor Nand Kishore Yadav, urging swift action to ensure justice for victims and accountability for perpetrators.
A press release on Thursday stated that an NMA delegation called on the governor at Lok Bhavan in Kohima on June 17 and submitted a memorandum highlighting several cases of violence against women and girls in the state.
The delegation raised concern over the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl in Dimapur involving three arrested accused, stating that the case has triggered widespread public outcry and requires a thorough investigation, justice for the survivor and adequate rehabilitation measures.

The NMA also drew attention to the sexual harassment allegations against senior IAS officer Reny Wilfred, expressing concern over inordinate delay in action that has reportedly resulted in further hardship for the complainants, several of whom allegedly lost their contractual jobs while pursuing justice.
According to the association, the delay has enabled an officer already facing trial in an alleged rape case in Noklak to continue harassing women in the workplace and initiate legal action against members of the Nagaland State Commission for Women.
The delegation further flagged the unresolved Pimla murder case involving a mother and the killing of college student Vihozonuo Zao in Kohima, alleging that despite forensic examinations, justice has remained elusive and police investigations have come under public scrutiny.
The NMA also appealed to the governor to intervene in the killing of six Naga civilian hostages in Manipur, allegedly by armed Kuki militants, and urged that the matter be taken up with the President of India to ensure the arrest and punishment of those responsible.
Further, the association recalled the death threats issued against one of its advisors and other Naga women who advocated for women's reservation, stating that the case has seen little progress after the accused secured bail shortly after the incident.
“The meeting concluded with the assurance of the governor to the NMA delegation to look into these cases of violence,” it stated.
