Nagaland women commission condemns Kiphire rape case, seeks strict action against accused police personnel and speedy justice

DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) has condemned the alleged rape of an octogenarian woman in Kiphire and called for strict action against the accused, stating that the incident represents a grave violation of human dignity and public trust.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the commission expressed concern that the alleged accused is a police personnel, saying crimes committed by those entrusted with upholding the law undermine confidence in the justice system and the institutions meant to protect citizens.
Describing the incident as a "horrific and inhuman", the commission stated that the assault on an elderly woman reflected an alarming trend of violence against women and girls.

Drawing attention to what it termed the increasing incidence of crimes against women and children, the commission said such cases require not only condemnation but decisive action, too.
It called upon the competent authorities to ensure that the accused is dealt with strictly in accordance with the law and that the punishment prescribed for such offences is applied without delay.
The commission also appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding the dignity and safety of women and children.
Reaffirming its commitment to pursuing justice, the commission expressed solidarity with the survivor and her family and said it would continue to advocate for stronger measures to ensure the safety and protection of women and children.
