KIPHIRE — A team from the International Human Rights Council (IHRC) on Wednesday visited the family of an elderly woman who is at the centre of an alleged rape case reported in Kiphire district.
According to the organisation, the woman is over 80 years old and has physical disabilities. The team said that it had met the family to express solidarity and gather information on the incident.
The organisation stated that, according to a complaint lodged at Kiphire Police Station, it was alleged that the elderly woman was sexually assaulted by her neighbour—reportedly, a Nagaland Police personnel—earlier this month.
The allegations are currently under police investigation.

Members of the human rights team also visited Kiphire Police Station and were informed that the accused had been arrested and that the investigation was being expedited in accordance with the law.
The organisation said that it plans to meet the superintendent of police, Kiphire, to seek a thorough investigation and appropriate legal action in the case.
It further appealed for strict action against the accused if found guilty through due legal process and urged the authorities to ensure justice for the survivor.
Police have not yet issued a detailed public statement on the case.
