Over 500 Tuli households affected by floods as NH-02 subsidence cuts Assam link and relief operations continue in Mokokchung.

MOKOKCHUNG — More than 500 households in Tuli have been affected by flooding, while a major road subsidence early Monday severed the vital NH-02 link connecting Mokokchung with Assam, leaving the district headquarter cut off even as relief operations continued.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung Atsungba Walling confirmed that all families affected by the flooding in Tuli were promptly evacuated to safety and provided temporary shelter.
Most affected families are currently staying with relatives as floodwaters gradually recede.
Relief and medical camps have been set up in Tuli town, where the district administration has already distributed essential supplies to affected families.
Walling said floodwaters were steadily receding, but Tuli town remained completely cut off from all sides, while telecommunications services continued to be disrupted. He added that no casualties had been reported.
To ensure an effective response, the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC) has been activated at the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, the Office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Tuli, and the Office of the SDO (Civil), Changtongya, for continuous coordination and monitoring of the situation.
The district administration is maintaining close coordination with its counterparts in Sivasagar district of Assam for joint mitigation efforts. Personnel from the 12 Assam Rifles stationed in Tuli have also been deployed to support relief operations.
The administration assured residents that adequate stocks of essential commodities are available in Tuli to ensure uninterrupted distribution and support.
Meanwhile, Executive Engineer (PWD-NH) Limatoshi said the subsidence occurred at Km 181 of NH-02.
A joint inspection was carried out by PWD officials, district administration representatives, Dobashis (DBs), village council members from Unger and Chuchuyimlang villages, and other stakeholders.
The engineer said restoring the existing road alignment is not feasible and that complete realignment is the only viable solution.
A consultancy firm was engaged on Monday evening to conduct a detailed geotechnical assessment, evaluate the extent of the damage and recommend a permanent solution, which will be forwarded to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for approval. Approximately 50 metres of the highway has sunk.
An alternative route for small and medium vehicles was cleared by late Monday afternoon to bypass the affected stretch.
The district administration has advised commuters to use the alternative route, which is suitable only for light motor vehicles, while efforts continue to clear debris and restore access for heavy vehicles.

Commuters travelling towards Mokokchung headquarters have been advised to take the route via Unger Village Local Ground–Kelingmen/Asangma Road Junction, while those travelling from Mokokchung should use the Kelingmen/Asangma Road Junction–Unger Village Local Ground route.
In a positive development, a landslide between New Aokum and Tsutapela Gate on NH-702D has been cleared, restoring another crucial road link to Assam for medical emergencies and the transportation of essential supplies.
The administration also said adequate stocks of petrol and diesel have been verified in the district, with distribution being regulated for emergency services.
Members of the public have been requested to immediately report emergencies, flooding, landslides or persons in distress to the DDMA Mokokchung Control Room at 6009479721.
The district administration, in coordination with the police, DDMA, SDRF and other line departments, is closely monitoring the evolving situation and implementing all necessary precautionary measures. It appealed to residents to remain calm, cooperate with authorities and refrain from spreading rumours or unverified information.
