NSDMA warns of thunderstorms, lightning across Nagaland till July 24

DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has warned of widespread thunderstorms, lightning and intermittent rainfall across the state over the next four days.

In a weather advisory issued on Monday, the NSDMA stated that several districts are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rainfall between July 21 and 24.

On July 21, localised thunderstorms and lightning are expected over Kohima, Mokokchung, Mon, Longleng, Phek, Wokha, Zunheboto, Tseminyu and Noklak, with light to moderate rainfall. Dimapur, Chümoukedima, Kiphire, Meluri, Peren, Shamator and Tuensang are likely to receive light rain at a few places.

it informed that thunderstorm activity is expected to intensify on July 22, affecting Dimapur, Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Niuland, Tseminyu and Zunheboto, where scattered light to moderate rainfall is also forecast. Light rain is expected in Kohima, Kiphire, Noklak, Shamator and Meluri.

On July 23, localised thunderstorms with lightning and light rainfall are likely over Chümoukedima, Longleng, Mon, Peren, Tseminyu, Tuensang and Zunheboto, while most other districts may receive isolated light rain or experience no significant weather warnings.

For July 24, thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by light rainfall are forecast for Kohima, Longleng, Meluri, Noklak, Wokha and Tuensang. Light rain at a few places is also expected in Dimapur, Kiphire, Niuland, Peren, Phek, Shamator, Tseminyu and Zunheboto.

The advisory comes as several parts of Nagaland continue to grapple with rain-triggered landslides and flash floods, with Mon district among the worst affected in recent days.
