Heavy rain triggers floods and landslides across Mokokchung, disrupting highways, communications, public services and damaging infrastructure in Tuli
MOKOKCHUNG — Torrential rainfall triggered severe flooding and multiple landslides across Tuli subdivision and other parts of Mokokchung district, disrupting road connectivity, public services and communication networks.
According to an official assessment report submitted by SDO (Civil) Tuli, Nukshimatong, continuous heavy rain has severed the National Highway-2 (NH-2) stretch connecting Tuli and Mokokchung. Road connectivity to Assam via Tzudikong has also been cut off due to flooding and landslides, severely affecting the movement of people and essential supplies.
Cellular network services in the Tuli area have been completely disrupted, hampering communication and emergency response efforts.
The report stated that the district administration has provided temporary relief materials to affected families.

No casualties had been reported at the time of filing this report. However, floodwaters have inundated key public infrastructure, including the Community Health Centre (CHC), the Sub-Divisional Police Officer's (SDPO) office and the Tuli Police Station, disrupting essential services.
The worst-affected areas include Tulikong ward (landslide), Shitikolak ward, Aitlenden ward, Tuliyong ward, Patizung ward and Bowl ward in Tuli town, besides Paola ward in Tzudikong and Anaki 'C' village, all of which have been affected by flooding.
A landslide has also been reported in Kangtsung village.
The SDO (Civil) said adequate stocks of essential commodities have been maintained to ensure uninterrupted distribution and continued assistance to affected residents.
Meanwhile, landslides have been reported from several other parts of Mokokchung district.
Executive Engineer, PWD (NH), Mokokchung, Limatoshi, said one-way traffic had been restored on all national highways passing through the district by late Sunday evening. However, two major landslides between Merangkong and Tuli on NH-2 remain uncleared.
"We are trying to clear the landslides at the earliest," he said.
Executive Engineer, PWD (R&B), Mokokchung Division, Toshikaba, reported landslides at Yoangyimti, Longkong, the Longmisa-Noksen road, Salulumang and the Asetkong-Tsusangra Road (AT Road) between Kelingmen and Asangma. While some stretches have been reopened to traffic, debris clearance is still underway at other locations.
Executive Engineer, PWD (R&B), Mangkolemba Division, Chubatoshi, also reported multiple landslides across Mangkolemba subdivision, including between Mangkolemba and Mongchen, several locations along the Jangpetkong Road, Khar village, Liremen, the IR Camp area under Yajang C, Nokpu, Lakhuni and Longchemdang.
He said it could take several days to clear debris and restore normal road connectivity in the worst-hit areas.
