DIMAPUR — An eye camp for senior citizens was held on November 6 at District Hospital, Mon, with Advisor for Social Welfare Wangpang Konyak attending the event as the chief guest.
The eye camp was jointly organised by the Department of Social Welfare and Mercy Eye Centre, Dimapur, and supported by District Hospital, Mon, a DIPR report stated.
In his address, the advisor said it was a privilege to be part of the programme to restore eyesight to elderly people, a reminder that elders are not left behind.
Konyak said that the Social Welfare department aims to uplift vulnerable groups by providing social assistance, meeting nutritional standards, and protecting those at risk, including the elderly.
He highlighted government schemes like Old Age Pension, Elderly Helpline, and Charity Care, and informed that the government plans to establish an Old Age Home in every district.
The advisor urged elders to follow doctors' advice for speedy recovery and thanked Mercy Eye Centre Dimapur, Dr. Chingkup Konyak, and their team, as well as District Hospital, Mon, for their cooperation. He also thanked the Deputy Commissioner of Mon for his support.

In his speech, Deputy Commissioner of Mon, Wennyei Konyak, extended gratitude to the advisor, Social Welfare department, Mercy Eye Centre Dimapur, and District Hospital, Mon, for organising the camp.
The DC attributed blindness in society to lack of facilities and awareness, encouraging people to have timely check-ups for a better life.
Dr. Ngopole Keviechu, DTO Mon, shared about the importance of eyesight and treatment options for eye problems, while Dr. Chingkup from Mercy Eye Centre, Dimapur, explained the overview of the camp.
The programme was chaired by Khonbeni Jami, CDPO Phomching, and welcome address was delivered by T Yanlem, District Welfare Officer, Mon. Invocation was pronounced by David Konyak, Chaplain District Hospital, Mon.
Amilo Yanthan, CDPO Tizit, proposed vote of thanks.
