DIMAPUR — Multiple educational institutions in Kohima, Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Jakhama organised freshers' meet programmes to welcome newly admitted students.
Model Christian College: Model Christian College, Kohima, celebrated its 18th annual freshers’ meet on August 21 at the college auditorium on the theme "Beyond ordinary".

According to an update, the freshers demonstrated their talent, creativity, and confidence through a special walk presentation featuring a variety of creative costumes and styles. A question hour was also held, providing participants with an opportunity to demonstrate their confidence, presence of mind, and communication skills.
Thrukhumto T Yimchunger and Kriizhiini were crowned Mr. and Miss Freshers 2026, respectively. N Leipha Konyak and Viposanu bagged the Mr. and Miss Multimedia titles, while Shanjothung Ngullie and Linoto Katty won Mr. and Miss Congeniality, respectively.

The judges for the competition were Miss Nagaland 2025 and Miss Sumi second runner-up Linoka K Achumi, winner of Nagaland Exotic Model Hunt Season 6 (2025) and top five finalist of Sunsilk Mega Miss North East (2026) Nounengunuo Kratsütsu, and second runner-up of Mr. Teen Nagaland 2026 and fashion designer Zulambemo Y Odyuo.
MGM College: MGM College celebrated its freshers’ day on August 20 on the theme "New beginnings, endless possibilities".

Administrator of MGM College Fr. Shaiju Philip shared words of encouragement and reminded the students of the importance of discipline, values, hard work, and responsible participation in college life.
The chief guest, Executive Director of DAN Rev. Fr. Sajan Joseph, motivated the freshers to dream boldly, develop their talents, and make meaningful contributions to society.
Apili of first semester shared a message on behalf of the freshers. Armen from the Department of History was declared Mr. Fresher, while Jimei from the Department of Sociology was crowned Miss Fresher.
Ram Janaki Higher Secondary School: Ram Janaki Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, celebrated its 22nd freshers’ meet on August 21 in the school auditorium to welcome the incoming Class 11 (Arts and Commerce) students.

The event, organised by Class 12 students, featured cultural performances, music, and dance. The principal addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of academic discipline, moral values, and personal growth.
Vikash Kumar Yadav and Namita Paswan were crowned Mr. and Miss Freshers for the 2026-2027 academic session.
Mount Mary College: Mount Mary College, Chümoukedima, celebrated its 14th freshers’ day at Yashipokla Memorial Hall on the theme “A tale yet untold” on August 22.

Delivering the exhortation, Managing Director Dr. C Teeya Imsong encouraged the freshers to reflect on the importance of themes in life, observing that every programme, lecture, and experience carries a theme that can serve as a stimulus to learning.
Acknowledging the confidence of today’s youth, he stressed that confidence must be complemented by knowledge, skills, discipline, and continuous learning. He urged students to avoid lethargy, stating that time spent does not automatically translate into wisdom or knowledge.
The celebration featured ethnic, casual, and formal rounds, along with departmental performances by various departments.
The Mr. and Miss Fresher competition was judged by Lovikali Swu, Ayuh W Konyak, Temsu Sanglir, and Viphresul Natso. Soshe and Menevinuo Medoze were crowned Mr. and Miss Freshers, respectively.
St. Joseph’s College: St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama, hosted its 39th freshers’ day on August 22 at the college indoor stadium.

Additional Secretary of IT and Communication Vibozoto Yiene attended as the guest speaker. Principal Dr. Fr. George Keduolhou Angami delivered the welcome address.
Yiene highlighted the growing importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and urged students to develop relevant AI skills and remain adaptable to the rapidly changing world of work. He stated that students should learn to work alongside emerging technologies and prepare themselves for the opportunities and challenges of the future.
The programme featured cultural performances, including a folk dance by the NSS Unit and a presentation by the Dance Club, along with introductions by first-semester class representatives and vice class representatives.
