Educational institutes across Nagaland organised varied programmes including HIV and AIDS awareness campaigns, research seminars, cultural fests, peace initiatives, and more

DIMAPUR — Educational institutes across the state observed varied programmes on September 19 and 20, ranging from awareness campaigns to academic seminars, cultural fests, peace initiatives, student celebrations, etc.
Yingli College: As part of the intensified information education communication (IEC) campaign 2025, Yingli College, Longleng, organised awareness activities through street play and flash mob on September 19 on the theme “Ending stigma, ensuring health”.
According to an update, supported by the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS), the campaign sought to create awareness on HIV, AIDS, and other STIs, promoting safe practices and reducing stigma.
Activities were conducted at Yingli College Campus, Oushok village, Hukpang Junction (market area), Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Longleng, and Lempong Junction to reach diverse audiences, including students, villagers, office-goers, and the general public.

Traffic diversion announced in Kohima for road repair works
Kohima College: Kohima College, Kohima (KCK), on Saturday hosted a one-day state-level seminar on the role of interdisciplinary research in higher education institutions to achieve sustainable development goals.
Funded by the Department of Higher Education and organised by the college’s IQAC and Research and Development Cell, the event gathered faculty and students from multiple institutions.
The programme featured addresses by Dr. Eunice Alinger (associate professor, History, RDC, KCK), Dr. K Nishena Nekha (additional director, Higher Education), keynote speaker Dr. I Anungla Aier (former director, Higher Education), and Dr. Vitsosie Vupru (principal).
Peace Channel and NEISSR: The 18th Peace Knit Fest, organised by Peace Channel and North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), in collaboration with North Eastern Diocesan Social Service Society (NEDSSS), commenced on Saturday at Peace Centre, 7th Mile, Chümoukedima, on the theme “Act now for a better world”.
According to a press release, chief guest Kahuto Chishi on the occasion urged honesty, ethics, and skills combined with values, while special guest Rev. Jose Mukala stressed dialogue, mutual respect, and institutions of peace.

The programme featured cultural performances, student presentations, and a folk dance by NEISSR trainees. The fest will conclude with the valedictory on September 21, commemorating International Day of Peace, with the Peace Award 2025 to be conferred.
Immanuel College: Immanuel College, Dimapur, celebrated its 31st freshers’ social-cum-annual day on Saturday on the theme “Igniting aspirations, illuminating futures”.
Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, as special guest, exhorted students to embrace academic and experiential learning, stressing human resources as vital despite technological advancement.
The highlight was the crowning of Miss and Mr. Freshers, with Zorah Yepthomi and David Ezung winning the respective titles. Cultural performances by students and guest artists Obonger Pongen and Kumughato added to the celebration.
Tetso College: The Department of Education, Tetso College, with Tetso NSS, Tetso Red Ribbon, and BYWC CiTYBARN-The Health Centre, Dimapur, organised an HIV & AIDS awareness campaign on September 19 on the theme “Choose right, live right”.
The campaign, led by counsellor Mhalelhou Albert Yhome, stressed prevention, counselling, mental health support, and voluntary testing. Students enacted a drama on stigma and misconceptions, while free blood screening encouraged voluntary participation.
St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous): The Department of Business Administration, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama, held the 16th convergence fest on September 19 on the theme “Converging creativity and strategy”.
Guest speaker Toinali Chophi, founder of Beauty Barn India, on the occasion inspired students with her life’s journey.

The fest featured different competitions such as Business Plan Presentation, MAD Ads, CEO Challenge and Business Quiz, which were held on stage, while off-stage competitions like photography, art, mock interviews and investment simulation also took place simultaneously.
For the first time, the department also organised a business expo as part of the fest, where 12 business organisations, consisting of both student entrepreneurs and local entrepreneurs, participated and showcased their products.
Tetso College emerged as the winner of the first Business Expo Competition, while BMS Kids Craft bagged the runner-up position.
Meanwhile, Under Officer N Mensham Konyak of St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama, and 24 Nagaland Battalion NCC, Kohima, was felicitated on Saturday at NCC Group HQs, Kohima, for securing All India Rank 66 in the SSB NCC Special Entry.
He will join the Officers Training Academy, Chennai, on September 25. The Group Commander lauded his achievement as an example for future NCC cadets.
Sainik School Punglwa: Cadets of Sainik School Punglwa undertook the “Swachhata Hi Seva” campaign at Punglwa B village on September 19.
According to an update, a total of 21 NCC cadets, 28 Eco Club members, and 5 staff members participated, engaging in village outreach under the message to “stay clean and remain healthy”.
