DIMAPUR — Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton has expressed grief at the passing of R Sopu Angami in Guwahati and Mentsio Patton in Dimapur, extending condolences to their families.


In a condolence note, Patton said that Sopu was a respected senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland who dedicated decades of his life to serving the people and strengthening the party organisation across the state.


“He served two terms as Kohima district president and held the post of state vice president from 2009 to 2012. Shri Angami also contested twice on the BJP ticket in the Nagaland State Assembly elections,” he said.

Noting that he was known for his grassroots connections, organisational acumen, and tireless efforts to build the party’s presence in Nagaland, the Dy. CM added that Sopu earned the respect and affection of party workers and the public alike, and his contributions have left a lasting mark on the BJP in Nagaland.


While mourning the passing of Mentsio, father of his team member, in Dimapur, he mentioned that Mentsio retired as DIS in the Education department and was known for his dedication to public service.


“Hailing from Old Riphyim, Shri Patton leaves behind a legacy of commitment and goodwill that touched many lives,” he said, adding that his family’s and his thoughts are with the family of the deceased and prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul.
