WOKHA — The Wokha Town Colonies Union (WTCU) has formally appealed to the executive engineer of Wokha Electrical Division, to suspend the installation of smart prepaid meters under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) within Wokha town, citing unresolved concerns and lack of technical clarity.
In a letter written on Monday, the union responded to the department’s circular issued on August 12, which had directed the rollout of smart meters across the district.
The WTCU expressed regret for its absence at the meeting convened by the deputy commissioner on August 26, attributing it to the ongoing resolution by five tribal apex bodies to abstain from all government meetings—a stance that prevented the union’s participation.
It stated that despite the matter remaining unresolved between stakeholders, the department had proceeded to issue another circular on September 12 mandating installation across all categories in Wokha district.

The union termed this move “not acceptable at the present situation.”
Highlighting the RDSS as a new energy technology initiative, the WTCU underscored the need for proper explanation from technical experts before implementation. It urged the department to keep the matter in abeyance until the tribal bodies lift their resolution and all parties concerned can engage in a joint deliberation for better understanding.
The union further cautioned that if the RDSS scheme is implemented prematurely within Wokha town colonies and any eventualities arise, the WTCU will not be held responsible.
