DIMAPUR — A total of 84 women leaders representing various churches across Dimapur participated in the "Naari leads swachhata – faith-based one-day action summit" organised by the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) at Hotel Acacia.
The summit, held on June 6, sought to empower women as key drivers of behavioural change in promoting cleanliness, waste segregation, plastic reduction, and environmental stewardship within their homes, churches, and communities, stated an update.
Retired Commissioner and Secretary LH Thangi Mannen highlighted in his address the vital role of women in protecting the environment and leading community action for a cleaner and greener society.
Adrian M Mahung, Consultant to the DMC for Waste Management, conducted a practical session on the Solid Waste Management Rules 2026, household waste segregation, home composting, and plastic reduction strategies. Participants were also trained on how to conduct awareness programmes within their churches and neighbourhoods.
As part of the initiative, participants were provided with a segregation bin each and the Swachhata Leader Handbook to support them in implementing and replicating the lessons learned through church fellowships, community outreach activities, and household awareness campaigns.
