Wapher Village Council condemns illegal hunting incident at Hamro Nu forest in Kiphire district and warns of stern action.

DIMAPUR — The Wapher Village Council (WVC), Kiphire district, has condemned the unfortunate incident that took place on February 19 at Hamro Nu (Wildlife Preservation Forest) under its jurisdiction.
In a statement, the council stated that the deceased, Buinet Wongto, son of Yunglem, from Khudu Village, Tuensang, was a victim of involuntary manslaughter by the accused Sunie, son of late Pupa of Pang Village, Noklak district.
It was learnt from reliable sources that the incident occurred while the party involved was engaged in illegal hunting, despite repeated and strong prohibition and restriction orders issued by the village council.

“It is learnt from the reliable source that the incident occurred while the party involved were engaged in illegal hunting, despite the repeated and strong prohibition and restriction order issued by the village council,” the WVC stated .
The council stated that the notice had previously been served to all neighbouring villages and the concerned district administration for their information.
It also warned all individuals and groups that hunting and fishing are strictly prohibited within its jurisdiction.
“If anyone is found hunting or fishing illegally, the village council will take stern action against the defaulters as deemed fit by the customary court of Wapher Village,” it stated.
Furthermore, the council stated that it would not be held responsible for any untoward incidents that might take place within its jurisdiction in the future.
