Union Minister of State for Housing & Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu reviews ongoing schemes in Imphal on Saturday

IMPHAL — Union Minister of State for Housing & Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu on Saturday reviewed ongoing schemes of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and held a departmental review meeting of Central Public Works Department (CPWD), Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO), and National Buildings Construction Corporation (India) Limited (NBCC) in Imphal.
After witnessing the presentations of various central sponsored flagship programmes of the state government, the union minister said that the Prime Minister has changed the outlook of the North-east states.
Stating that the state government needed to work hand in hand with the central government for the state's progress, Sahu appealed to officials to report on matters relating to issues and challenges hindering scheme implementation.
Informing that the schemes should be properly implemented and completed in the given time frame even though some exceptions are required, he asked the officials to give written statements regarding the schemes that need attention while implementing in the state.
Regarding the delay in completion of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana PMAY (U) 1.0, he added that demands can be made to the Ministry for proper implementation of the schemes as Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana PMAY (U) 2.0 has already been implemented.

A departmental review of the completed and ongoing works of CPWD, HUDCO and NBCC (India) Limited was also conducted.
Regarding PMAY (U) which was launched in September 2024 and will be implemented for the next 5 (five) years, it is reported that only the Beneficiary-led Construction (BLC) component is implemented in the state.
The Town Planning Department presented an overview of AMRUT 2.0, a mission aiming to make cities ‘water secure’. Twenty seven towns in Manipur across six districts - Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, Bishnupur, and Jiribam - are eligible for the mission.
Commissioner (RD & PR) and Addl. Secretary (MAHUD) Sumant Singh, CEO Imphal Smart City Mission Hari Kumar Singh, Consultant Town Planner N Gitkumar, Chief Town Planner N Benju Singh, officials of MAHUD, Town Planning department, Public Health Engineering Department, HUDCO, CPWD, NBCC were present at the meeting.
Later, the visiting Union Minister visited the Nongpok Torban Development Project taken up under Imphal Smart City Mission and had a brief discussion with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at the latter’s Lok Bhavan regarding the way forward in the urban development sector.
