National Sports University introduces MSc Applied Sports Nutrition and BSc Sports Coaching course.

IMPHAL — Despite limited infrastructure, the National Sports University (NSU) has introduced MSc Applied Sports Nutrition and BSc Sports Coaching course for the first time in the country.
The Vice Chancellor of NSU, Dr. Shyam Sundar Rath, while speaking to reporters in connection with the 8th foundation day celebration of the country’s first ever sports varsity here today, said that they’ve introduced these courses for the first time in the country. More than 35 applied science papers are associated.
Accompanied by the Registrar of NSU, Dr. L Dibamani Singh, Dr. Rath informed that they are planning to shift the university to the main campus located at Koutruk in Imphal West district from August this year.

The University, which was set up in Manipur in 2018, is the first one of its kind to promote sports education in the areas of sports sciences, sports technology, sports management and sports coaching. It is currently functional from its temporary campus at Khuman Lampak Sports complex in Imphal.
NSU has four schools namely School of Sports Science and Sports Medicine, School of Sports Management and Technology, School of Sports Education and School of Interdisciplinary Studies and it currently provides two graduate courses and four master’s degree courses.
The graduate courses are BSc Sports Coaching and Bachelor of Physical Education and Sports programme, while the master courses are MSc Sports Coaching, MA Sports Psychology, Master of Physical Education and Sports Programme and MSc Applied Sports Nutrition.
When asked about the grievances, Dr. Rath said, “Our hostel capacity is very less. At present we’re having 338 students. Minimum 1000 students are highly required. So we’ve to establish our high performance centre in our main campus and we’ll conduct workshops, conferences and seminars etc by inviting experts so that our students benefit out of it.”
Regarding the 8th foundation day celebration, he added that honouring of Olympians, Arjuna awardees, felicitation of outstanding sports persons, managers and coaches besides academic achievers of NSU will be salient features of the celebration on January 16.
Secretary (Sports) of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Hari Ranjan Rao, and sports scientist of Gakugei University (Japan), Associate Prof. Dr. Naoki Suzuki, will also attend the celebration.
