ICAR-KVK Wokha and ICAR-CTCRI organised a training programme on improved tuber crop production and protection technologies for around 100 participants in Wokha.
WOKHA — The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Wokha, in collaboration with the ICAR-Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (CTCRI), Thiruvananthapuram, organised a training programme on “Improved Production Technologies of Tuber Crops” at the VDB Hall in Wokha on Saturday.
The programme brought together around 100 participants from various villages and featured technical sessions on improved production practices, crop protection, and the management of major pests and diseases affecting tropical tuber crops.
The training was chaired by Megokhono Meyase, CTO (Horticulture), ICAR-KVK Wokha, while District Project Officer (LRD) Wokha, R Lichumo Murry, attended the event as the special guest.
Delivering the keynote presentation, Dr. VS Santhosh Mithra, Scientist-in-Charge, Extension and Social Sciences and Principal Scientist, ICAR-CTCRI, provided an overview of the programme and highlighted the importance of adopting improved technologies in tuber crop cultivation.
Senior Scientist and Head (In-charge), ICAR-KVK Wokha, Dr. N Khumdemo Ezung, and Lotsomo Yanthan also addressed the gathering. Input materials were distributed to participants during the programme.

The technical session on “Production Technologies of Tuber Crops” was conducted by Dr. VS Santhosh Mithra, while Dr. Arutselvan, Senior Scientist, ICAR-RCCTCRI, Bhubaneswar, led another session on “Tropical Tuber Crop Protection: Major Pests, Diseases and Their Management.”
The resource persons shared technical knowledge on crop production and protection, focusing on practices that can help improve productivity and address cultivation-related challenges.
The programme concluded with a field visit, offering participants practical exposure to the technologies and concepts discussed during the training.
Organisers said the initiative formed part of the collaborative efforts of KVK Wokha and ICAR-CTCRI to disseminate improved technologies and strengthen farmers’ knowledge on the production and protection of tuber crops.
