DIMAPUR — The Seyochung Village Students’ Union (SVSU) has appealed to the District Education Officer (DEO) of Kiphire to revoke the transfer of the only mathematics teacher from Government High School (GHS) Seyochung.

In a letter addressed to the DEO on Monday, the union expressed concern over the transfer order issued by the government of Nagaland vide Notification No. DSE/GTREQ/NPSC/2023/303, dated October 29, 2025.

The union stated that the school has been facing a “serious shortage of teachers, especially in Maths and Science,” and warned that the transfer would leave students without a maths teacher, “and their education will be badly affected.”

“The union has raised this problem many times in the past through letters and news reports published in print media. We have repeatedly requested that more teachers be appointed at GHS Seyochung, but no action has been taken so far,” the letter stated.

“Instead of appointing additional teacher, the department is transferring the only existing Maths teacher, which is very discouraging,” it added.

Highlighting that the annual examination is “approaching within a month or two,” the SVSU termed the move “disgraceful and disheartening” at a time when students need guidance the most.

It therefore urged the education department to revoke the transfer order and allow the teacher to continue serving at GHS Seyochung “until a qualified replacement is posted.”
