DIMAPUR — With an aim to create awareness among the students on modern agricultural practices and to inspire them towards agri-based entrepreneurship, students of Beanstalk School visited the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dimapur, and conducted a session on “Agri-entrepreneurship opportunities” on Tuesday.

An update from KVK Dimapur stated that the programme began with an introductory session during which the students introduced themselves and shared their interests in agriculture and allied sectors.

Delivering the welcome and briefing session, Dr. Phool Kumari, senior scientist and head of KVK Dimapur, highlighted the role of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and elaborated on the mandates, objectives and major activities of KVK Dimapur. She emphasised the importance of agriculture as a sustainable career avenue and encouraged the students to explore opportunities in agri-entrepreneurship to contribute to the nation’s food security and rural development.

After the briefing, the students, accompanied by Dr. Akshay, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy), and Dr. Moanaro, programme assistant, were taken on a field visit. The visit provided them with firsthand exposure to various crop cultivation practices, demonstration units of vermicomposting, piggery and other integrated farming system (IFS) models developed by the ICAR Nagaland Centre.

The field exposure was followed by a session on “Agri-entrepreneurship opportunities,” conducted by Marneni Divya Sree, Subject Matter Specialist (Agricultural extension). She discussed emerging avenues in agri-based startups, value addition, agribusiness ventures and the role of youth in modernising agriculture.

It stated that the session highlighted government schemes, training facilities and support mechanisms available for aspiring agri-entrepreneurs.

At the end of the programme, the students were provided with packets of assorted vegetable seeds to encourage them to apply their learning practically. The initiative was aimed at inspiring the students to establish their own kitchen gardens, thereby enhancing their understanding of vegetable cultivation and promoting the concept of growing safe and healthy food at home.

The programme concluded with an interaction between the students and KVK scientists.
