Stakeholders meet in Wokha to address delays in the PMGSY Humtso-Elumyo village road project.
WOKHA — Representatives of the Humtso Village Youth Organisation, Humtso Village Council, contractor's representative Tsenpo Murry, and Sub-Divisional Officer of Public Works Department, Chandemo Tungoe, met on September 8 to discuss the progress of the ongoing Humtso-Elumyo village road construction in Wokha under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
The project, sanctioned under PMGSY-III in March 2024 for an 18-month execution period, has registered limited progress and is currently running in its second extension period, according to a press release.
Works completed so far include earth cutting, installation of Hume pipe culverts, construction of protection walls, and excavation of side drains. However, key components of the project, including full-depth reclamation, PCC and bituminous works, are yet to commence.
During the discussion, the department stated that efforts were being made to facilitate completion of the project by March 2027, while the contractor’s representative expressed the possibility of resuming work at the earliest.

The prolonged delay has been attributed to challenges including incessant rainfall, machinery shortages or breakdowns, and other operational difficulties. Residents have continued to await the completion of the road for regular travel and connectivity.
The Humtso Village Youth Organisation appealed to the executing firm and those responsible for the project to resume construction immediately and complete the road before Christmas.
The organisation also appreciated the stakeholders for acknowledging its concerns and assured continued cooperation towards ensuring better road connectivity for the people of Humtso and Elumyo villages.
