DIMAPUR — A joint cultural programme was organised by the youth department and women department of the Sümi Baptist Church, Kohima (SBCK), on Saturday as part of the celebration of the Tuluni festival.
According to a press release, Lukheto Yeptho, chairman, Board of Deacons, SBCK, while delivering Tuluni greetings, encouraged the congregation to carry forward positive aspects of their cultures and traditions but discard those elements that do not align with Christian values.
He emphasised that such events play vital roles in reviving and preserving cultural identity.
The competitions, which included traditional fire-making, top spinning, and traditional hopping, were held, with members of SBCK representing the ten fellowships participating.
Special presentations such as war cries, folk dances, folk songs, and a drama on the traditional Morung system and the customary practice of seeking a woman’s hand in marriage were part of the cultural programme.
