DIMAPUR — In a landmark step towards cardiac healthcare in the region, the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR), Chümoukedima, officially inaugurated Nagaland’s first-ever cardiac rehabilitation centre on Saturday.

The inaugural ceremony, held at the CIHSR cardiac care centre, began with an invocation and dedication prayer said by Petekhrienuo, chaplain at CIHSR, while the ribbon-cutting ceremony was performed by Dr. Leishwon Kumrah, Dean of Medical Sciences.

Addressing the gathering, CIHSR director, Dr. Sedevi Angami, lauded the efforts of the cardiology department and shared insights into the institution’s journey toward advanced cardiac care. He noted that the introduction of facilities like the cardiology OPD, cardiac diagnostics, Cath Lab and ICCU had created a strong foundation—now expanded to include post-acute cardiac rehabilitation.

“This centre is the logical step in our vision of a complete cardiac hub-housing the OPD, diagnostics and rehabilitation,” Dr. Angami said.

An update from CIHSR stated that Dr. Avitso Liegise, head of cardiology department, highlighted the growing burden of cardiovascular disease in Nagaland, referencing research supported by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). He also emphasised the urgent need for integrated, long-term cardiac care.

"This centre will play a vital role in helping patients regain function, understand their condition, receive counselling, undergo supervised exercise and adopt heart-healthy lifestyles,” said Dr. Liegise adding, "It completes the continuum of care we offer from emergency intervention to full recovery."

The inauguration concluded with a closing hymn and a collective prayer of dedication.
