WOKHA — The Inter-State Weekly Market-cum-Sales Day was officially inaugurated at the Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) complex in Wokha town, on Saturday.
The initiative aims to foster regional trade and promote organic produce across state borders, particularly between Nagaland and Assam.
The event was attended by SDO (Civil) Wokha, Echungbemo Erui, who emphasised the market’s potential to empower farmers and strengthen the local economy.
Recalling Wokha’s reputation as the “Land of Plenty,” he highlighted the district’s fertile soil and stressed the importance of protecting this natural resource for the benefit of all, especially the farming community. He assured full administrative support to traders participating in the initiative.
Erui also urged vendors to uphold the integrity of the market by avoiding the mislabelling of non-organic produce as organic, warning that such practices could damage the district's reputation. He encouraged the public to recognise farmers' hard work through fair compensation and called for active participation to keep the market vibrant and economically beneficial to all.

Managing Director and CEO of NSAPLMB, Jacob Yanthan, in his speech, extended gratitude to traders from Assam for their collaboration.
He stated that the market was envisioned as a platform for exchanging region-specific agricultural products, reducing dependency on distant markets. He also shared that the initiative aims to strengthen ties and promote economic cooperation between Nagaland and Assam. Yanthan mentioned upcoming development plans for APMC Wokha and appealed for continued support from all stakeholders.
Representing the traders from Assam, Sahidur Rahaman expressed optimism about the future of inter-state trade. He thanked the people of Wokha for their hospitality and urged the public to facilitate unhindered transportation of goods along the route to Nagaland.

The weekly market will be held every Saturday at the APMC Wokha Complex near NH 61, starting from 7 a.m.
