Deputy Commissioner of Wokha issues traffic regulations for smooth vehicular movement.

DIMAPUR — In view of the increasing traffic congestion and frequent obstructions caused by unregulated parking of vehicles along the national highway passing through Wokha town, the deputy commissioner (DC) of Wokha, Vineet Kumar, has issued traffic regulations in the interest of public safety, smooth vehicular movement and overall traffic discipline. The order would come into force with effect from July 7 until further notice.
As a temporary measure, the stretch from police point to DC office junction as well as from main police point to the office of the district planning and machinery (Etsutchukha junction) and from main police point to Hornbill Hotel along the national highway would be used for one side parking only.

The order stated that parking of any type of vehicle would be strictly prohibited along the remaining stretch of the national highway within town limits.
It stated that loading and unloading of goods along the national highway would only be permitted after 4 pm till 7 am. It added that no commercial vehicle would be allowed to halt for loading/ unloading in the middle of the road or in restricted zone between 7 am and 4 pm.
The order also directed to immediately remove all forms of temporary or permanent encroachments along the roadside of the national highway including unauthorised stalls, structures or materials.
It stated that footpaths/ drainage which are part of national highway should be kept free at all times. It added that shops such as garages, sawmills etc. should not encroach on the public space along the national highway.
Besides, it stated that no ‘reserved parking’ should be placed on the national highway area including pavement, footpath, drainage etc.
It informed that the town council would ensure periodic monitoring and removal of such encroachments.
It warned that violation of the above instructions would attract penalties under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and the Nagaland Road Safety Rules.
It has directed the Police department, in coordination with the district administration, district transport office and town council, to strictly enforce the above regulations.
It further directed all the concerned departments and public to adhere to the order in the interest of public convenience, safety and discipline.
