Nagaland reviews Census 2027 preparations as House Listing Operation begins July 1 with training and awareness drives state-wide.

DIMAPUR — The State-Level Census Coordination Committee (SLCCC), chaired by Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha, reviewed the preparedness for the first phase of Census 2027 during a meeting held at the Chief Secretary’s conference hall, Nagaland Civil Secretariat, Kohima, on Tuesday.
According to a DIPR report, Director of Census Operations and Director of Citizen Registration for Nagaland, Dr. Keneilhoutuolie Miachieo, presented a detailed overview of preparations for the House Listing Operation (HLO), which is scheduled to be conducted from July 1 to the 30th.
Dr. Miachieo informed the committee that 6,461 census functionaries have been appointed across the state. Training programmes for master trainers, field trainers, principal census officers, district census officers, charge officers, supervisors and enumerators have either been completed or are currently underway.
He stated that 130 field trainers have already been trained, while training for 1,010 supervisors and 5,124 enumerators is scheduled between June 8 and the 25th.
The committee was also briefed on awareness and publicity measures planned for the Self-Enumeration (SE) and House Listing Operation phases.
These include radio interviews, jingles and advertisements through print and electronic media.

Self-enumeration for Census 2027 from June 16
Dr. Miachieo informed the members that messages from the Chief Minister, Governor, Chief Secretary and Home Commissioner are proposed to be broadcast through All India Radio to encourage public participation in the census process.
He further said that media coverage and publicity during the self-enumeration phase would be coordinated through the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) and the Press Information Bureau (PIB).
The campaign will feature news coverage and public messages from key dignitaries, including the Governor, Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Ministers, Council Of Ministers, Chief Secretary, Director General of Police and Home Commissioner.
The committee was also apprised of plans for social media outreach during both the Self-Enumeration and HLO phases.
Promotional videos are proposed to be produced by Dreamz Unlimited and disseminated through YouTube and Instagram, targeting audiences across Nagaland as well as at the district level. Social media influencers will also be engaged to strengthen awareness campaigns.
Dr. Miachieo highlighted arrangements relating to the distribution of census materials, postal services for collection and delivery of census documents, manpower deployment, financial status and the proposed release of funds for Phase I activities.
He also briefed the committee on vehicle requirements and monitoring mechanisms to ensure smooth implementation of census operations throughout the state.
The presentation reviewed compliance with decisions taken during the second SLCCC meeting held on January 30, including notification of the HLO timeline, disbursement of funds to districts, manpower deployment, awareness programmes for legislators and political party leaders, appointment of census functionaries and training initiatives.
The committee was further informed about the financial status and proposals for the release of funds for the first phase of the House Listing Operation.
The proposal includes engagement of technical assistants and multi-tasking staff (MTS) for three months, along with provisions for training, logistics, IT support and other operational requirements.
Deputy Commissioners from all districts attended the meeting through video conferencing.
