DIMAPUR — The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl in Dimapur is nearing completion of its investigation, with evidence collection almost concluded and a chargesheet expected to be filed soon.
The case, registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Dimapur Women Police Station, is being investigated by the Dimapur Police SIT.
According to the Dimapur Eastern Nagaland Students' Union (DENSU), the investigation is progressing in the right direction and the organisation is awaiting submission of the chargesheet.
"As the investigation and evidence collection are nearing an end, we are waiting for the chargesheet to be filed. If the chargesheet is satisfactory to us, the report will be submitted for court proceedings. We are constantly following the case," the union stated.
Three accused persons arrested in connection with the case remain in police custody.

They were identified as O. Watimeren Jamir alias Wati Jamir (43), a resident of Lengrijan village, who was arrested on May 28; Tsuktimongba Ao (37), a resident of Razaphe Industrial Village and cousin of the first accused, arrested on May 30; and Akangkokba Ao (68), a resident of Residency Colony, arrested on June 7.
Meanwhile, a woman identified as the sister of Wati Jamir, was arrested on June 8 for allegedly disclosing the identity of the minor victim in violation of Section 23 of the POCSO Act.
She was subsequently granted bail and is prohibited from leaving Dimapur.
Her arrest came days after Dimapur Police, on June 3, appealed to the public and media organisations not to share any information that could reveal the identity of the minor victim.
Police had stated that disclosure of a victim's identity is punishable under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the POCSO Act and the Juvenile Justice Act.
The police had also maintained that the investigation was continuing and assured that the chargesheet would be filed without undue delay.
