NSDMA issued thunderstorm and heavy rainfall alerts for multiple Nagaland districts, warning residents about floods and landslides

DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a four-day weather advisory warning of thunderstorms, lightning and intermittent heavy rainfall across several districts of the state from May 12 to 15, urging residents and district authorities to remain on alert.
According to the advisory, weather conditions are expected to intensify gradually during the period, with isolated districts likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall, raising concerns over waterlogging, flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.
On May 12, light rain and isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected in parts of Kohima, Wokha, Mokokchung, Longleng and Mon districts, while no major weather warning has been issued for most other districts.
The weather activity is expected to expand on May 13, with localised thunderstorms, lightning and light to moderate rainfall forecast over Kohima, Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Peren, Wokha, Mokokchung, Mon, Longleng and Tseminyu districts.

The NSDMA stated that thunderstorms and rainfall are likely to continue on May 14 in many districts, while Longleng district may witness moderate to heavy rainfall at isolated places.
On May 15, scattered intermittent light to moderate rainfall is expected in Kohima, Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Mokokchung, Mon and Tseminyu districts, while Mon district is likely to receive moderate to heavy intermittent rainfall.
In view of the forecast, NSDMA advised the public to exercise caution during thunderstorms and lightning activity and avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles during adverse weather conditions.
Residents living in low-lying and landslide-prone areas have also been urged to stay alert for possible flash floods, waterlogging and landslides.
The authority further directed all District Disaster Management Authorities and departments concerned to remain prepared and take necessary precautionary measures to ensure public safety.
It also encouraged citizens to download and use the Safer Nagaland App for accurate real-time alerts and verified weather updates.
