DIMAPUR — An awareness programme on the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) was held on Thursday at the Directorate of Agriculture, Kohima, for all district agriculture officers (DAOs) and sub-divisional agriculture officers (SDAOs).
According to an update, the programme was organised to sensitise field officers on the importance of crop insurance and to initiate the implementation of PMFBY for select major crops in the state.
In his inaugural address, Medovilie Ladu, Additional Director of Agriculture, stressed the significance of PMFBY in safeguarding farmers against crop loss due to natural calamities.

He emphasised that with the increasing vulnerability of agriculture to climate change, it is imperative for the state to adopt risk mitigation tools such as crop insurance. He encouraged the participants to take the lead in creating awareness among farmers and ensuring timely enrolment in the scheme.
The resource person for the programme, Idol Chakma, Administrative Officer, Agriculture Insurance Company of India Ltd., gave a detailed presentation on the objectives, operational guidelines, benefits, and enrolment procedures under PMFBY.
He also responded to queries from the participants regarding implementation challenges and best practices followed in other states.
