KOHIMA — The total blockade of the Kohima-Jessami road along National Highway 29 (NH-29), called by aggrieved landowners affected by the Kohima-Jessami 2-lane road construction (Packages 2, 3, 4, and 5), began peacefully on Thursday morning.
According to an update from the landowners, the blockade commenced at 6 am and will continue until further notice.
Protestors are awaiting the outcome of a meeting convened by the deputy commissioner of Phek on Friday at 10:30 am in the DC’s conference hall.
The meeting will involve all stakeholders linked to the pending damage compensation dispute.

The landowners asserted their demand for payment of overdue compensation for damages sustained during road construction, which is at the heart of their peaceful protest.
The continuation of the blockade will depend on the outcome of Friday’s meeting and commitments made by the authorities concerned, they maintained.
During the protest, the landowners have requested commuters to use alternative routes to avoid disruption along the affected highway stretch.
