KOHIMA — The Phek Town Council (PTC) observed its first anniversary on July 9, following the urban local body (ULB) elections held last year.

During the commemoration programme of the first-anniversary celebration held at the PTC Conference Hall, Shevohu Nienu, Chairperson of the PTC, reminded the gathering of a shared vision to build a cleaner, greener and more progressive Phek.

Nienu highlighted that the PTC had completed 4 km of blacktopping of the town road with a proper drainage system, initiated town beautification, renovation of the PTC office, construction of the PTC gate, and designation of a one-stop shopping (bazaar) area in the main town.

Acknowledging Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and his cabinet colleagues, including the Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye, he said that the journey of the ULB polls was not easy, as it was marked by legal, administrative, and social hurdles. However, he added that the present opposition-less government had shown the courage to resolve these issues in an inclusive and forward-looking manner.

Nienu also lauded the Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio, for ensuring the fair and impartial distribution of development packages to three municipal and 36 town councils in the state.

He hailed MLA Kuzholuzo Nienu, who is also the Leader of the NPF Legislature Party, for his advice and support to the PTC. Further, he thanked the district administration and all the departments for their support and collaboration, as well as the Phek Town Public Organisation, Phek Town Chakhesang Students’ Union, Phek Town Women’s Society, Phek Town Youth Society, and all the ward chairmen, GBs, churches, NGOs, and others for their community spirit and partnership.

Thanking the general people of Phek town for their trust, patience, suggestions, and constructive criticism, Nienu said that as a team, the Phek Town Council continues to value transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in every decision they make.

He said that their vision for Phek town must focus on better roads, safer communities, livelihood opportunities, and digital governance, emphasising the goal to build not just a town to live in but a town to thrive in.

Earlier, Thejakhrienuo Nisa, ADC and EO of the PTC, also spoke at the programme.
