Patkai Christian College, GHSS Kiphire observe Earth Day 2025
Commemorating Earth Day 2025, the Eco Club of Patkai Christian College (PCC) organised an awareness programme on e-waste at the Bundrock Chapel on Tuesday
Nusakho Nyekha along with the teachers and students of
Government Higher Secondary School in Kiphire on the occasion of Earth Day on
Tuesday.
DIMAPUR — Commemorating Earth Day 2025, the
Eco Club of Patkai Christian College (PCC) organised an awareness programme on
e-waste at the Bundrock Chapel on Tuesday with Sowete-u K Letro, founder of
E-Circle Nagaland, as the resource person.
An update from the college stated that Sowete-u highlighted
key points of E-waste statistics stating that India is the third-largest
producer of e-waste in the world. She informed that e-waste such as electronic
devices contain various components that are often dumped in landfills, posing
health risks.
Sowete-u explained the difference between linear and
circular economies, emphasising the importance of adopting sustainable
practices. According to her, circular economic system aims to reduce waste and
promote sustainability. In a circular economy, products are designed to be
recycled, reused or biodegradable, reducing the amount of waste generated.
The resource person underscored that by adopting circular
economy practices, environmental impact of e-waste could be reduced and promote
sustainable development.
It mentioned that the awareness programme was aimed at
educating students about the importance of responsible e-waste management and
the role they could play in reducing electronic waste.
In a related programme, Earth Day 2025 was observed at GHSS
Kiphire on the theme “Our power, our planet – Miti, Ped Aur Paani.” The event
was organised by the Ura Zuveh Foundation and sponsored by the Ministry of
Earth Sciences, Government of India.
It stated that speeches were delivered by Khangpila Sangtam,
PGT Zoology, and Wapengrenla Imchen, GT Science, in official and regional
languages respectively.
Both the resource persons highlighted the urgency of
climate action and the importance of adopting sustainable practices to
safeguard the environment for future generations.
