- KOHIMA — Chief Minister of Nagaland
Neiphiu Rio on Tuesday announced that “Nagaland is powering up for clean
energy” and called for building a sustainable future using solar energy.
- Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the chief minister said, “Through
the Nagaland Solar Mission, grid-connected rooftop solar system is being
promoted for installation residential households. Let us harness the sun’s
energy to build a more sustainable future.”
- Elaborating on the Nagaland Solar Mission, Rio said the
mission, backed by both the central and state governments, will help
residential consumers install rooftop solar panels by offering financial
support (subsidy) to reduce the cost. The mission is implemented via the
national portal under PMSG: MBY scheme.
- The chief minister also highlighted the key objectives of
the mission, including achieving 32.8 MW RTS system installation on 10,938
residential households by 2027, providing free and low-cost electricity to
10,938 households up to an average of 300 units of electricity per month, and
reducing CO2 emissions.
- It also aims to develop the required enabling ecosystem for
rooftop solar projects, including regulatory support, manufacturing facilities,
