Paddy Seed Village initiative launched in Dhansiripar
Farmers and officials at Dhansiripar village for the launch of the Paddy Seed Village initiative on Tuesday.


DIMAPUR — The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dimapur and ICAR Nagaland Centre, in collaboration with the District Agriculture Office, Chümoukedima, launched the “Paddy Seed Village” initiative on Tuesday at Dhansiripar village.


The programme aimed to promote improved paddy cultivation practices to enhance productivity, ensure food security, and improve the livelihoods of farming communities in the district, stated a press release.


The inauguration programme was attended by Moainla Pongen, District Agriculture Officer, Chümoukedima, who highlighted the importance of adopting scientific methods and quality seeds to achieve higher yields.


In her address, she emphasised that the paddy sector holds immense potential to contribute to the agricultural growth and socio-economic development of the area.


Dr. Harendra Verma, Scientist (Plant Breeding and Genetics), ICAR Nagaland Centre, provided insights on modern cultivation techniques, seed treatment, pest and disease management, water management, and the importance of timely sowing.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Phool Kumari, Senior Scientist and head of KVK Dimapur, stressed the department's commitment to supporting farmers through capacity-building programmes and the availability of technical support at the grassroots level.


The programme witnessed the participation of farmers, local leaders, KVK, ICAR, and agricultural officers.


Altogether, there were 32 participants. Farmers expressed their gratitude for the initiative and pledged to adopt the recommended practices for better productivity.


Also, five quintals of RC Maniphou 7 paddy seeds and one paddy transplanter were provided to the farmers. There was an interaction and discussion programme where queries regarding paddy cultivation were answered by the officials present.


The implementation programme of Paddy Seed Village is expected to bring about significant improvements in crop yields, reduce production costs, and enhance income generation for farmers.
