Multiple organisations in Nagaland express condolences and call for robust infrastructure planning following the Mon landslide.
DIMAPUR — Multiple organisations in Nagaland, including the Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako (YAA), the Naga People's Front (NPF) Central Women Wing, the National People's Party (NPP) Nagaland unit, and the Ex-Parliamentarians Association of Nagaland (Ex-PAN), have expressed deep condolences and solidarity with the victims of the tragic landslide in Mon town.
The landslide, triggered by heavy monsoon rains on Sunday, July 19, claimed the lives of nine people, causing injuries, displacement, and severe damage to properties.
YAA: The YAA expressed deep anguish over the tragedy and stated that the entire Yimkhiung community shares in the grief of the affected families. The association conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for eternal rest for the departed and strength and healing to the injured.
The association also lauded the response of the district administration, Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), security forces, and volunteers. It urged the state government to ensure prompt relief, proper rehabilitation, and restoration of essential services to all affected areas, while appealing to the public to stay alert and follow safety advisories.
NPF Central Women Wing: The NPF Central Women Wing stated it was deeply saddened and grieved by the tragic landslide which caused devastation and immense suffering to many families. The wing extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for strength and comfort, as well as the speedy recovery of those injured.

The wing also appreciated the prompt response of the state government, district administration, and all volunteers engaged in the rescue and relief operations and urged all citizens to come forward and extend help to those affected.
NPP Nagaland: The NPP Nagaland unit expressed sorrow and condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the tragic landslides and flash floods triggered by recent torrential rain across Nagaland, particularly in Mon town, Tizit, and parts of Mokokchung and Wokha districts.
The party commended the rapid, courageous efforts of emergency response teams, local administrations, and community volunteers working on the ground under challenging conditions.
The NPP stated that while emergency relief and financial ex-gratia are necessary immediate responses, road blockages and severe infrastructural vulnerabilities have become an expected yearly ritual during the monsoons. The party stressed that the recurring nature of these disasters underscores the limitations of relying solely on post-event management.
"Therefore, the NPP firmly believes it is time for the government to proactively reorient its priorities toward robust, pre-emptive planning. We urge the NPF-led government to prioritise the long-term upgradation of our state’s foundational infrastructure – focusing on advanced drainage systems, comprehensive landslide mitigation along critical highways, and climate-resilient civil engineering," the party stated. It added that governance must look beyond immediate rescue operations to focus steadily on creating a safer, more durable built environment.
Ex-PAN: The Ex-PAN expressed sadness at the loss of nine lives and the damage and injury caused. The association noted that while Nagaland is prone to natural disasters, it is extremely devastating when such tragedies occur in urban areas, leading to the loss of lives and properties.
The association deeply mourned those who died and extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved families.
