Nagaland government releases INR 70 lakh relief for Mon disaster victims after landslides and flash floods claimed nine lives and devastated infrastructure
DIMAPUR — Even as search, rescue and restoration efforts continue across rain-ravaged Mon district, Nagaland government has released INR 70 lakh in immediate relief for families affected by the devastating landslides and flash floods that claimed nine lives and left widespread destruction in their wake.
The deputy commissioner (DC) and chairman of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Mon, informed on Tuesday that the amount has been sanctioned under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to provide ex gratia assistance to the next of kin of the deceased, gratuitous relief to the injured and immediate assistance to families whose houses were damaged by the disaster.
The landslides and flash floods, triggered by incessant rainfall on July 19 and 20, also left several people injured and caused extensive damage to residential houses, roads, bridges and other public infrastructure across the district.

During his visit to the affected areas on July 20, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio had also announced INR 10 lakh in immediate assistance for civil society organisations, the District Hospital and local volunteers supporting search and rescue operations.
The district administration—in coordination with Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, district police, SDRF, 42 Assam Rifles, Territorial Army, line departments, village and ward councils, the Konyak Union, Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong, Konyak Students' Union and community volunteers—continues to carry out search and rescue operations, assess damages, distribute relief materials and restore essential services in affected areas.
The deputy commissioner also acknowledged the efforts of government departments, security forces, volunteers and local communities for their swift response during the emergency.
With the monsoon continuing, the DC advised residents to remain vigilant, avoid landslide-prone slopes, overflowing rivers and vulnerable roads, and strictly follow official weather advisories and safety instructions.
He added that efforts to provide timely relief, rehabilitation and restoration to affected communities will continue as the situation is closely monitored.
