Konyak Union urges immediate restoration of Tobu roads and Bailey Bridge after landslides cut off over 21 villages.
DIMAPUR — The Konyak Union (KU), Tobu unit, has appealed to Nagaland government and to urgently restore road connectivity to Tobu sub-division in Mon district after heavy rainfall triggered landslides and damaged a key bridge, cutting off access to the area.
In a statement, the union said that a major landslide occurred about 13 km from the Tobu–Mon Border Roads Organisation (BRO) road at the junction connecting the Tuensang–Longleng highway. It stated that the foundation of the Bailey Bridge over Yetyong River had been eroded by strong river currents, rendering the road impassable for vehicles.
According to the union, the affected route is the only road connecting Tobu sub-division, which comprises more than 21 villages, with Dimapur, Kohima and neighbouring Assam.

The KU also stated that the Tobu–Shinnyu village road, maintained by the Public Works department, has suffered extensive landslides, further disrupting transportation and causing hardship to residents.
Expressing concern over the situation, the union urged the government and the departments concerned to immediately clear landslides, restore traffic movement, repair and reinforce the damaged Bailey Bridge, and stabilise vulnerable road sections to ensure safe and reliable connectivity.
It maintained that restoring the road network is essential to protect the livelihood, mobility and well-being of the people of Tobu sub-division and the surrounding villages amid the ongoing monsoon.
