DIMAPUR — Advisor for New & Renewable Energy and Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Z Nyusietho Nyuthe, on Monday convened an emergency meeting with all line departments in Kohima, to discuss the damages to roads and infrastructure caused by extreme weather events across the state.

A DIPR update stated that the meeting was attended by officials from PWD (Roads & Bridges – National Highways), Water Resource, PHED, the commissioner of Nagaland, District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs), and NHIDCL.

Chairing the meeting, Nyuthe reviewed disaster incidents and action-taken reports from affected districts including Chümoukedima, Meluri, Kiphire, Noklak, Dimapur, Shamator, Mokokchung, Kohima, and Peren.

He stressed the need for swift restoration of road connectivity in landslide-hit areas and called for additional machinery to be deployed in disaster-prone zones, it stated.

Nyuthe also urged continued coordination among line departments, close monitoring of water levels in vulnerable rivers like Chathe and Dhansiri, and adoption of sustainable construction practices tailored to Nagaland’s hilly terrain to ensure disaster resilience.

Joint CEO of NSDMA, Johnny Ruangmei, requested the deputy commissioners of Chümoukedima and Peren to prioritise maintenance of the Sukhovi–Mhainamtsi road, a critical alternative route amid multiple mudslides along NH-29.

He further urged maximum resource allocation to keep the route open for heavy vehicles, with machinery on standby to ease traffic congestion.

Rongmei also directed PWD field officers, executive engineers, and SDOs to inspect disaster-hit roads, identify vulnerable stretches, and specify resource requirements for urgent repairs.

Meanwhile, DDMAs from various districts, through video conference, presented real-time updates on damages, progress of ongoing restoration works, and immediate relief requirements.
