DIMAPUR — In a drastic step over the poor condition of the Niuland–Zhadima road, residents of Hovishe and Ghotovi villages under Niuland district have announced an indefinite ban on vehicular movement through their jurisdiction beginning September 16.

The resolution was adopted during a joint consultative meeting of the two villages held on Monday at Niuland town.

A notice issued in the aftermath of the meeting stated that repeated representations and appeals to the state government for proper construction of the road—described as the lifeline for many commuters—had gone unheeded.

According to the resolution, no vehicular movement, including government vehicles, will be permitted on the route from 6 am on September 16 onwards. Only police, medical and paramilitary services will be exempted.

It also cautioned commuters that the Niuland–Zhadima road should not be used and that any individual or vehicle using it would do so entirely at their own risk.

“The two villages shall continue to impose the ban on vehicular movement and reaffirm our stand until and unless the government takes immediate steps for the construction of the Niuland–Zhadima road,” the statement read.
