DIMAPUR — The Northern Angami Women Organisation (NAWO) has condemned the attempted rape and murder of one of its member, a mother of four children, on the evening of July 16. In a press release, the NAWO stated that a despicable and inhumane crime is anathema to a civilised society.

The organisation urged the investigating agency to conduct a thorough, impartial probe and present the case before the judicial forum promptly, ensuring justice for the victim and her family. “NAWO once again reminds all persons, especially those within its jurisdiction, to subject themselves to the rule of law, which is the very foundation of a civilised society,” it stated.

In a separate press statement, the Kense clan of Tuophezou also condemned the “heinous crime” of attempted to rape and murder by one Khrietuolie Kense of Tsiemekhu Basa village on July 16.

“The perpetrator of such barbaric and inhuman nature of crime has no place in today’s civilised society. The clan empathises with the victim, who had to undergo grave physical injuries and serious mental trauma, having the tendency to haunt her for a long time to come. The clan prays for her speedy recovery from both the physical injuries and the mental trauma,” it stated.

The clan urged upon the law enforcing agencies for proper investigation, necessary charges and prompt trail for award of befitting and exemplary punishment to the culprit, as per provisions of the law.

“The same should serve as a deterrent for recurrence of such grave nature of crimes, particularly against our women. Under no circumstances and no one should try to circumvent the law and no leniency should be allowed in this particular case,” the statement added.
