DIMAPUR — The Angami Women Organisation (AWO) has condemned the attempted rape and murder of a woman from Botsa village on the evening of July 16.

In a condemnation note, the AWO stated that the assault occurred at knifepoint while she was returning from her field and that the “despicable act,” allegedly committed by one Khrietuolie Kense from Tsiemekhu Basa village, is “not only a crime against an individual, but an attack on the dignity, safety and rights of all women in our society.”

“We strongly condemn this brutal and cowardly assault against a woman, who is also a mother to four children. AWO also lauds the courage and bravery of the victim, who fought against her attacker sustaining serious injuries to her neck, wrist and finger in the process.”

The organisation demanded swift, thorough and impartial investigation by the law enforcing agency/concerned authorities and ensure that justice is delivered without delay in accordance with the full provisions of the law.
