ENSF presses brakes on teacher transfers in eastern Nagaland, warning officials against moves that leave schools without replacements
DIMAPUR — With teacher shortages biting in eastern Nagaland, the Eastern Naga Students' Federation (ENSF) has pulled the brakes on transfers, warning officials against transferring teachers without replacements.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the federation stated that it was not against the state government's policy of regulating the procedure and period for submission and processing of teacher-transfer applications.
However, it expressed concern that further transfers could worsen the shortage of teaching personnel in schools across eastern Nagaland and affect students' academic interests.
The federation reminded that it had repeatedly brought the shortage of teachers to the attention of the competent authorities and pursued the issue of adequate and equitable deployment of teaching personnel.
According to the ENSF, some teachers were seeking transfers out of eastern Nagaland by taking advantage of the Directorate of School Education's notification dated March 24, 2026, despite the existing shortage.

The ENSF has called upon all district education officers (DEOs), senior sub-divisional education officers (Sr. SDEOs), sub-divisional education officers (SDEOs), heads of schools and school management committees (SMCs) under eastern Nagaland not to recommend, forward or facilitate teacher-transfer applications without a proper reliever.
It also urged officials to ensure that transfers do not adversely affect the teacher-student ratio or disrupt the functioning of schools.
The federation directed its constituent units to monitor teacher-transfer cases in their respective jurisdictions and maintain vigilance over the process.
The ENSF clarified that its position was not intended to undermine the statutory authority of the government or competent departmental authorities in matters of transfer and posting.
Rather, it stated that the caution was aimed at ensuring that implementation of the transfer policy did not further aggravate the existing shortage of teachers in eastern Nagaland.
The federation warned that any instance of forwarding, recommending or facilitating a transfer without a proper reliever, or in violation of its stated directives, would be reported to the federation for “appropriate action”.
