Speaker Sharingain Longkumer and Lions Club of Kohima mourn former NLA Secretary AS Arthur, recalling his legacy and service.

DIMAPUR — Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly Sharingain Longkumer and Lions Club of Kohima (LCK) have condoled the passing of AS Arthur, former NLA Secretary, on May 2.
In a condolence message, the NLA Speaker stated that Arthur served the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 1974 till 1984 with exemplary dedication, integrity and professionalism.
“His service was marked by unwavering dedication, impeccable integrity, and a deep commitment to the highest traditions of parliamentary democracy. His stewardship greatly contributed to strengthening the institutional framework and enhancing the efficiency and dignity of the House, the message read.

In a separate message, the Lions Club of Kohima stated that when the LCK was chartered and established in 1978, Arthur became the charter president of the club for the first Lionistic Year, 1979–80. In the following Lionistic Year, 1980–81, he once again served as president of the club.
“He dedicated himself wholeheartedly to the growth of Lionism and laid the foundation for Lionism in the state capital, Kohima. Because of his vision and commitment, the Club has been able to continue its activities and service to humanity over the years,” the club stated.
Late Arthur was also the father of Outer Manipur MP Alfred Kanngam Arthur. He later joined politics in Manipur and was elected MLA from Ukhrul in 1984. He subsequently served as Minister for Forest & Environment and General Administration in 1994.
