DIMAPUR — The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) commemorated its 10th graduation-cum-foundation day on Thursday at the Bishop Abraham Memorial Hall, Peace Centre, Chümoukedima.

According to an update, the celebration was attended by Dr. Kevezai Tureng, director, College Development Council (CDC), Nagaland University, as special guest, and had an address from Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, bishop of Kohima and chairman of NEISSR.

In his speech, Dr. Tureng encouraged the graduating class of 2025 from BSW and MSW to view their education as a foundation for building something greater than just a means of livelihood.

He urged them to see life from different perspectives and to be builders of a better society and advised them to remain curious, grounded, and compassionate and to remain humble in success and failure.

Dr. Tureng called on the graduates to become the voice of the voiceless and hope for the weak, carrying forward the values of service, humility, and leadership instilled at NEISSR.

Rev. Dr. Thoppil, in his address, emphasised the core values of social work—justice, dignity, integrity, competence, and the importance of human relationships. He urged the graduates to become social transformers and advocates, promoting equity and resilience, and to lead with social responsibility while carrying forward NEISSR’s values.

Dr. Fr. CP Anto, principal of NEISSR, in his welcome note, said graduation should be seen as a bridge from the ‘now’ of learning to the ‘next’ of living and leading. Speaking to Gen Z, he emphasised that while they are digital natives, employers look for resilience, problem-solving, creativity, communication, humility, and teamwork.

He urged graduates to transform knowledge into wisdom, individuality into collaboration, and comfort into courage. He further encouraged them to never stop adapting, to use education not only for careers but also for transforming society, to serve with humility, lead with integrity, and live with courage.

The outgoing batch speech was delivered by Joyba C Sangtam, the former president of the student council, who shared his personal growth at NEISSR. Best Student awardees Visekunu Thol from MSW and Tsukhari Florance from BSW, also delivered their messages.

The event recognised outstanding student achievements.
